Kenney-War Department Documents

I have copies of documents from the The Adjutant General's Office May 13, 1836, certifying that Thomas P. Kenney, Mama Goodall's maternal grandfather, served in the Confederate Army during the Civil War. He enlisted in Smith County in December 1861. He served the 2nd (Smith)Tennessee Cavalry. He was captain and formed this company himself. One of the companies' officers was Ira B. Purnell, 1st Lieutenant, Mama Goodall's paternal grandfather.

Captain Kenney went to Washington after the war and obtained from President Abraham Lincoln the release from prison one of his men by the name of Owen.

It is stated that Thomas P. Kenney also served in the Mexican War in 1848.

Elizabeth Purnell Dougherty, Mama Goodall's sister, requested this document for membership in the United Daughters of the Confederacy. Her daughter, Peg Donnelly, sent me copies of these documents.
