Tuggle Family History

All the Tuggle information I have came from a handwritten notebook that Mama (Dora Ann) had. She loved family history.

The first Tuggle recorded was William Tuggle who was born in London, England in 1560. He was married to ELizabeth and they had seven children. Their son, Benjamin Tuggle was born in 1598. He married Maacha Tarrant. they had five children all born in Bradford, England.

Thomas Tuggle was born December 4, 1629. He married Mary Tarrant in 1661. They had five children. Not for sure when, but they moved to the new world and he died in Middlesex County, Virginia in 1684.

Mary and Thomas's son Henry was born May 10, 7, 1690. He married Mary Baskett daughter of Elizabeth and John Baskett. They had seven children. their son Henry was born in 1699. He married Mary Godbey, daughter of Frances and Edward Godbey, in 1722 in Goochland County, Virginia.

Their son John Tuggle was born February, 12, 1724. He married Mary Houchins. They had ten children. Their son John was born in 1756. John's first wife died leaving him with one son in Virginia. Later, he married Elizabeth Bradford, daughter of Elizabeth and Philemon Bradford November 28, 1784, in Granville, NC. They had seven children.

John and Elizabeth's son Harris Bradford Tuggle was born February 2, 1789, in North Carolina. He married Margaret Bradshaw April 4, 1808, in Davidson County Tennessee. they had twelve children. Harris died October 11, 1852 in Smith County Tennessee.

Their son James Tuggle was born August 25,1819. He married Elizabeth Denny , daughter of Clary and Wiley Denny. They had eight children. their son John Thomas Tuggle was born in 1867 in Smith County Tennessee. He married Ida Burge and had five children. After her death, he married Fannie Gertrude Williams, daughter of Sarah Elizabeth Cox and Newbern S.G. Williams. They also had five children: Gaston Ray married Pauline Ligon; Robert Carl married Nannie Patience (Betty); Ruth Moore (died at the age of twelve of typhoid fever); Catherine Gertrude married William Albert Godsey and Bessie Nell married Frank Jarrell (divorced)

John Thomas Tuggle was a blacksmith. He died in Hillman, Alabama but is buried in Cedar Grove Cemetery in Lebanon, Tennessee, in his first wife's family plot.
