Daddy Bob was famous for his hot homemade sausage. He loved his dogs and the farm. He was a big fan of As the World Turns. he would never admit it. I remember when he told Mama that he would watch HER story and tell her what happened when she got back. :*)
Mama Betty worked at the Lebanon Woolen Mills. I can hear the three o'clock whistle now.
One story that always come to mind is the Sunday she drove to Barton's Creek Baptist Church for the first time. She took with me with her. We were both scared to death, but we made it there and back. I don't think she ever drove again.
Another that comes to mind happened at the VanHook Reunion in 1983. Mama Betty didn't want us looking a the new VanHiook family history. We just couldn't understnad it. Finally, we looked and saw that her real name was Nannie Patience VanHook, not Betty. She didn't like her name, so she changed it. I often wonder if she did it legally. I guess so, becasue her social security number had her name as Betty.
Daddy Bob died November 15, 1975, of heart problems. He is buried in Cedar Grove Cemetery in Wilson County. Mama Betty died December 10, 1990. She lived the last few years of her life with Dora Ann (my mother) and Louis Simms. She died unexpectedly and suddenly after getting home from taking a ride with Mama and Louis. Mama Betty was buried beside Daddy Bob and several other family members in the Cedar Grove Cemetery in Wilson County, Tennessee.
