Uncle Walter was still living at home when I was born. He was one of my favorite people, and I always tried to please him. I cooked my first meal for him when I was about four very early one morning. It is a wonder I didn't burn the house down. I also remember leaving home, which was located behing Unc and Bubba's, and walking down to Mama Goodall and Papa's very early one morning. I marched in the living and proceeded to play the piano, waking up the household. Only problem was my dad didn't know where I was. I will never forget the look on his face when he drove up and saw me. Needless to say, I didn't do that again.
When I was five, Uncle Walter (Wally) married Zuelma Simpson from Greenville, Tennessee. They had three daughters: Barbara Gail and twins: Martha Louise and Mary Francis. They lived in Pulaski and then on a farm at Doak's Cross Roads in Wilson County. Now, they reside on Castle Heights Avenue in Lebanon. Uncle Walter worked for the Soil Conservation Department.
